Preview of Avego V2.0

Shared Transport iPhone app to roll out in December

Screenshot from version 2.0 Avego is pleased to announce that we will soon be re-launching our revolutionary Shared Transport iPhone application with a completely redesigned user experience and a plethora of major new capabilities. Some of the most significant enhancements in version 2.0, which is due for release in December, include:

  • Real-time carpools. Shared Transport has always been more advanced than traditional carpooling, as Avego users know. Now, for the first time, some of the benefits of Shared Transport, such as real-time passenger information, are coming to members of traditional carpools.
  • Routes without pre-recording. The Avego experience requires that the driver indicate where they are driving. In earlier releases, this required the driver to record the route the first time they drove it, before making the route available to other riders. Now, drivers will no longer need to record the routes they drive. Instead, it's possible for drivers to be matched with potential passengers from their very first journey.
  • Pre-created stop network. For greater ease of use, the 2.0 experience will be pre-populated with 150,000 convenient stop locations, reducing the effort it would have taken users previously to create shareable routes.
  • International versions. Although the app has been used in more than 60 countries worldwide, it has only been available in English. With version 2.0, the app will initially be available in three languages, with more to follow.

These are just some of the great new features that we have been working on ever since the original release of the iPhone app in December of 2008. Keep an eye on the Avego website for more information about this upcoming release in the weeks ahead.

China Welcomes Avego

Official opening of Avego's new Dalian office

Official Opening of Avego's office in Dalian Avego’s new office in China was officially opened on October 14th at a special event attended by representatives from the City of Dalian, print and television news organizations from across China, as well as a delegation from the Irish government, which included Minister for Trade and Commerce Billy Kelleher, Ambassador to China, Declan Kelleher, and Enterprise Ireland Chairman, Hugh Cooney.

Speaking at the event, Minister Kelleher said:

“Avego is a leading Irish exporting software company and one of the most prominent software companies in their field. This announcement marks a significant step in their successful exporting strategy. The establishment of this office in China will enable Avego to better access the potential in the Chinese market.”

The office, which includes a China Network Operations Center, is located in the Dalian High-Tech Zone. Dalian, a city of 6.2 million people, is one of the most highly regarded places in China for the development of software, and also one of the fastest growing cities in China. Avego is thought to be the first Irish technology company to establish in the city of Dalian, as well as the province of Liaoning, a region to the Northeast of Beijing with a population of 42 million people.

“We are thankful for the tremendous reception and co-operation we've received from the Chinese government in the establishment of our Asia-Pacific headquarters,” said Sean O'Sullivan, Avego’s Managing Director. “We look forward to working with transportation operators to face the unique challenges present in the massive and rapidly modernizing China. Our staff in Ireland, China and the United States are combining efforts to produce products that will improve transportation networks worldwide.”

Coach & Bus Live 2009

Futurefleet demonstrated at UK trade show

Avego's stand at the conference Thank you to everyone who visited Avego at this month's Coach & Bus Live event in Birmingham. Attended by 6,000 passenger transport professionals, the trade show provided Avego with a great opportunity to demonstrate Futurefleet’s end-to-end capabilities directly to bus and coach operators in the UK.

Delivered as Software-as-a-Service, FuturefleetTM enables operators to quickly define their stops, routes, schedules and ticket pricing online and immediately have that content made available on an in-vehicle device, the GPS-enabled Futurefleet Mobile Data Terminal (MDT). The Futurefleet MDT then feeds back real-time information, enabling operators to monitor the vehicle's position and performance online and providing real-time passenger information.

We are very grateful to everyone who visited us at the John Groves Ticket Systems stand to enquire about Futurefleet and we look forward to continuing these conversations in the coming weeks and months. Any UK operator interested in learning more about how Futurefleet can improve the efficiency of their transport services should contact Avego’s Eurasian Sales Director, Jonathan Guard.
